Modern Regional Review

Write for us

We welcome considered pitches about regional culture and identity, especially pieces that make a specific subject understandable while respecting local differences. Send proposals through the Contact page.

Subjects we welcome

Pitch an idea connected to language, foodways, architecture, traditions or the ties between neighbouring places. We are interested in explanations, comparisons, cultural histories and close looks at a particular custom or detail.

What makes a strong pitch

Set out the central question, why it matters to readers and the particular angle that makes it distinct. Name the places or cultural examples involved, explain the limits of your claims and tell us what kind of piece you have in mind. Avoid pitches that rely on a single example to speak for an entire region.

How to propose it

Send your proposal through the Contact page and select the editorial question option. Include a short outline and any relevant context. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; please do not send confidential material.

Our point of view

A region is made in the details

A shared identity can emerge in words, meals, buildings and customs. We look for the local variation as well as the ties between places.
